I agree Charlie. It’s obviously as a midfielder that he‘s going to be used initially. After that, who knows? I can see him eventually partnering with Matt Smith for example but if we get injuries in defence he obviously can slot in there. I wonder how good a player he’s going to be in L1 but we’ll soon see. We’ve obviously paid good money for him and given him a long contract so he’s going to be here for a while!
If Luke Chambers is back soon, I suspect he will rotate with Steven Sessegnon on our left side, and with Jason Kerr and Will Aimson holding down the centre back spot, I can't see how Mellish would play anything other than central midfield.
It will be interesting to see whether he partners Jensen Weir or Scott Smith, and the latter's contract is up in the Summer. That situation will be one to watch...
Mellish has done well for the most part in League Two, but Carlisle as a whole struggled massively last season in League One. I hope Mellish can find some good form at this level and be the midfielder that we need to get us to the end of the season playing better football.
